I read the operative report before I read anything else, because it is where the surgeon says what happened.
I started the firm in 2009 after years at a larger practice, because I wanted to take fewer cases and read every one of them closely. Most of what I do is surgical and hospital work, and most of the cases I read end with me telling a family that I cannot take them.
That is a hard call to make, and I make it with the reviewing physician in the room. When we say yes, it is because the record and a surgeon in the same field both say the care fell short.

How I work
I take few new cases at a time, so I can keep meetings unhurried and return calls myself. If you are in the hospital or at home, I will come to you.
I write to families after every step, in plain sentences, with the next date in the last line. Outside the office, I am usually on a ferry, going somewhere with a book.
