From first call to answer
How a chart review leads to a case
Most families hear from us twice before anything is signed: once to start, and once with an answer.
- 01
Step 1: The first call
About twenty minutes. You tell us what happened, we ask for dates and the names of the places involved, and you ask anything you like. It is free.
- 02
Step 2: The records
You sign authorizations and we request the complete chart. Hospitals can take weeks, and we keep asking until the last page arrives.
- 03
Step 3: The chronology
We put every note, order and result in time order, with the page each came from. Gaps and contradictions show up on that page.
- 04
Step 4: The physician’s review
An independent physician in the right specialty reads the chart and the chronology, and tells us what they find, whether or not it helps.
- 05
Step 5: The answer
We tell you plainly whether we will take the case. When the answer is no, we say why, and we name any deadline you should know about.
- 06
Step 6: The agreement
If we take it, you sign a written fee agreement. It states our fee and how costs are handled, and we go through it before you sign.
Fees and costs
Paid on recovery, with costs in writing
We are paid on a contingency fee: a share of any recovery, and no attorney fee if there is none. That is separate from case costs, such as records, physician reviews, filing fees and depositions.
Your agreement says who pays costs, and when, if the case recovers and if it does not. We go through that with you in the first meeting, and you can take it home before you sign.
In writing, before you sign
No charge for the first call or the records review
A written agreement before any case is taken
Costs set out in the agreement, in plain terms

Before you agree to anything
How long does a case take?
The review usually takes a few weeks after the records arrive. A case that goes forward can take years, and we tell you what to expect at each step.
Will I have to go to court?
Many cases resolve before a trial, and some do not. If yours is headed to trial, you will know well ahead of time and we will prepare you.
What if the answer is no?
You will have it in writing, with our reasons and any deadline we know of. You are free to ask another firm to take a second look.
Can I stop at any point?
Before you sign an agreement, yes, at no cost. After that, the agreement says what happens, and we go through it before you sign.
Call, and bring only the dates
Dates and names are enough. We will explain what to send.
Free first call. Fees are contingency: no attorney fee unless there is a recovery. Costs are explained in writing before you sign.
